Latest Asda Roundabout Feed Back Update

8th May 2010

I tried to email retiring MP Andrew McKinley for un update on the Asda roundabout dispute but he has severed his web site and email links with Thurrock!

I also emailed retiring councilor Carl Morris who standing to succeed Andrew Mckinley as Thurrock's next MP.

No reply

I now will have to contact the House of Parliament Ombudsman directly for an Update due to the changes in the 2010 elections

Driving Instructors
Are Still Teaching the Clock System

What is the Best Lane to Select for my Manoeuvre?

Thurrock council must take into account that new drivers and strangers that visit Thurrock will be expecting Thurrock council to provide a high level of road safety, one of the ways of doing this is by having in place the correct information road signage that will allow drivers to carry out safe maneuvers at
all junctions.

New drivers and strangers to Thurrock that are not familiar with the road layout at Junction should adapt to the clock system!

Unless road markings or road sign direct otherwise.

The Clock System (As a guide) Two Lane Approach
When viewing a roundabout main information sign, think of a clock.
any exit you require from 6'oclock up to and including 12'olcock use the left hand lane, any exit you need after 12'oclock use the right hand lane

Unless road signs or marking inform otherwise.

Thurrock Council Highways
Have Got This Information Sign Wrong

Thurrock Council Highway's Must Act Now.
If Thurrock Council really has our interest in road safety to heart they should take a leaf out of the Highways agency's book regarding the correct information road sign that should be in place approaching the Asda roundabout from Tilbury, check out the Highways Agency's roads signs below.

This Road Sign Gives Incorrect Information.
The road sign shown below is in place at this present moment in time and is giving all road users the wrong information regarding the Safest route to negotiate on the roundabout if you are intending to go from Tilbury to the A13, M25 or Grays.

The Council Breaks Our Agreement.
It was agreed by the Highways Engineer Mr Peter Tilbury who was the Highways department Engineer at Thurrock Council in 1998 that the road sign in place at this present moment in time that is giving out the wrong information would be temporary converted or changed.

Council Letter Of the Agreement.
The Council has changed the letter from what was agreed at the Meeting with me and there is no mention in the letter of the temporary plates that was agreed to overcome the present problem!

(Click the image to enlarge)

How The Road Sign Should Be Amended.
Mr Tilbury suggested that having two temporary plates made up, one to cover up the wrong direction, and the other plate showing the correct direction would solve the problem temporary until new sign was installed as agreed.

The Highways Agency
Got it Right!

Highways Agency (contractors) Set An Excellent Example.
The Highways Agency's contractors working on the A1089 (Dock approach road) over the period November to December 2004 to correct the flooding problems had no trouble in displaying the correct information sign regarding Tilbury to the A13 / A1089 as the photo below shows.

More Facts

New Road Signs For Old
The Highways agency has now completed all of the work on the A1089 Dock approach road, and in doing so they replaced all of the old road signs in the area with new one's that they were working on in November and December 2004.

The new green road sign below shows Tilbury as a left turn as you approach the Asda roundabout driving south from London!

It goes without saying, when driving out of Tilbury with the intension of going to Grays or London, the maneuver is a right turn.

More Facts

.Thurrock Council Gets It Wrong using the Ordinance Survey Map.
Thurrock Council Highways are saying that the road out of Tilbury is shown as ahead on the ordinance survey map!

This is not true as the ordinance survey map image below will confirm, it shows St Andrews road from Tilbury Ferry and Tilbury dock's as ahead to the A1089, Thurrock council highways also appear to be ignoring all of the other evidence and facts to the outstanding argument.

The ordinance survey map below quite clearly shows St Andrews road to the A1089 to Gray and London to the north as AHEAD

More Facts

Even the reliable Sat Navs are giving drivers the correct directions for a Safe manoeuvre through the Asda Roundabout from Tilbury to the A1089

A Thurrock Councilors Sarcastic Remarks
Will Not Win Vote's

What Was Thurrock's Chafford & North Stifford Councilor Thinking!
I sent an email asking serving Chafford and North Stifford Cllr Neil Rockliffe the Thurrock Conservative Portfolio Holder for Highways transportation for assistance to try to resolve the Asda incorrect road sign dispute.

Cllr Neil Rockliffe should be ashamed of himself.

Check out his reply reply below.

Mr ******,

Thanks for your e-mail. I looked at your web site some time ago and, as I declared on there, more than willing to work with you to get this resolved.

However, As a Conservative, I am more than willing to give "The Labour Party" a chance to sort this out.

I am sure, as you have found so far, the Labour Party in Thurrock including our MP are the party of non-action.

Thanks,

Neil

The Conservative Councilor Wants To Pass
The Problem To Labour?

Cllr Rockliffe Puts His Party Before Road Safety.
It appears that Thurrock's Conservative Cllr Neil Rockliffe's Priorities are more concerned with scoring political points rather taking up this very serious outstanding Thurrock road Safety issue!!

Thurrock Voters Take Note.

A Meeting Took place
21/01/2009

Asda Roundabout (Feed Back)

Road Safety (Tilbury) feed Back – 21/1/2009

A meeting took place today that was very kindly arranged by the Thurrock Cllr and Conservative leader Terry Hipsey regarding the long outstanding Road Safety problem regarding the incorrect Asda roundabout leader board.

Also present at the meeting was Thurrock Highways engineer Les Burns and supporting me with my ongoing road safety argument was the high ADI grade Thurrock driving instructor Mrs P.Tredwell.

I believe the meeting was again very constructive although very frustrating at times due to technical arguments from both side’ however, Leader of Thurrock Council Cllr T.Hipsey said that he would look into getting the long outstanding problem sorted out and also he has suggested improving road safety at the Asda roundabout by introducing road markings as well as correcting the dodgy road sign that is in place at this present moment in time.

Many Thanks To Thurrock Ex Conservative Council Leader - Cllr Terry Hipsey

Cllr Hipsey has now resigned from the Conservative Party and crossed the floor to join the Labour party.

I wonder what really made him step down as leader of the conservative Party!

The Asda Road Sign Has Been Built In Sections.
I also brought to Cllr Hipsey attention that the incorrect Asda road sign has been assembled in sections! and only a part or parts of the sign need to be replaced.

Asda Roundabout Incorrect Road Sign
UPDATE - 13/3/2009

A Thurrock Councils Highways spokes person has informed us that he and Cllr Rockliffe see no reason to change the incorrect Asda roundabout road sign in question.

You can read all of the facts and enlarge the pictures that are above.

Lets stick to the facts

Thurrock Highways and the Conservative Cllr Neil Rockliffe appear to have arrived at a premature closure decision on the incorrect Asda road sign.

Thurrock Road Safety Will Prevail

I anticipate this outstanding road Safety argument continuing on.

If this is the case it will be necessary for this serious outstanding road safety argument to move up to a higher level and hopefully involve the Local Rt Hon MP for Thurrock Mr Andrew McKinley and other Professional bodies.

New Information That I Received Today.
A recent letter received from Thurrock Council complaints department informing me that Thurrock Councils Highways and the Thurrock Conservative Holder for Highways and Transportation have decided NOT to change the the incorrect road sign in question.

A New diagram has also been received from Thurrock Council.
Sadly the new amended sign changes that have been proposed within the new diagram show no improvements in road safety that would benefits road users at the Asda roundabout location, and therefore could NOT be acceptable to resolve the outstanding road safety problem.

Thurrock Council Highways have also informed me that Essex Police and the DSA have been approached for there views to help to resolve this ongoing road safety problem,

Putting My Side Of The Argument

Its Time For Me To Move Up A Gear.
I must now arrange a meeting with Labour Councilor Mr Carl Morris and the RT Hon MP for Thurrock Mr Andrew McKinley regarding this outstanding road safety problem, the new Labour Councilor Mr Terry Hipsey should also be aware of updated progress due to him already having knowledge of the facts from a recent meeting that was arranged and took place with Thurrock council Highways

Thurrock's Conservative
Portfolio Holder for Highways
Closes The Door

24/4/2009 - Update

Its A Black Day For
The Thurrock Conservative Party

A letter has now been received from Thurrock Council and confirms that the Conservative Councilor and Portfolio Holder for Highways has made a final decision regarding replacing the Asda roundabout sign in Tilbury that is displaying the wrong signage.

The Conservative Councilor and Portfolio Holder for Highways says the Asda roundabout sign that is giving out the wrong information shall remain unaltered!

The Thurrock Conservative party should be ashamed of themselves, they have allowed the standards of road safety in Thurrock to fall once again.

The Conservative Councilor and Portfolio Holder for Highways never even bothered to arrange a meeting with me to view all of the facts before arriving at a very irresponsible decision.

Thurrock's RT Hon Labour MP Takes The Argument Forward.
I am very grateful to Thurrock's Labour MP Mr Andrew McKinley for taking time out to attend a meeting with me at very short notice at the Tilbury Labour Party office in Tilbury.

I Think My Frustration With The Past Conservatives May Have Shown.
Mr Andrew McKinley was very patient when I spread my road safety facts and images across the desk while he listened intently to my concerns.

Thank You.
Finally I would like to thank Thurrock's MP Mr Andrew Mckinley for his own positive road safety concerns and his commitment to take on and resolve my long outstanding road safety problem that the Thurrock Conservative Party's (administration) could not sort out.

Update's as and when I receive them.

Latest Update - 14/4/2010

NONE.

Thurrock's past MP Mr Andrew McKinley has now stepped down as MP for Thurrock.
I am now awaiting feed back from Thurrock's Labour Party regarding how we move forward regarding the long outstanding Asda roundabout incorrect road sign dispute.

I may have to email the House of Parliament Ombudsman myself to get feed back
